Off the Beaten Path: Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan was the perfect quiet escape after Gili Trawangan. Not that Gili was crazy, but it was definitely busier and rowdier than you would picture for a tropical island getaway.

Nusa Lembongan is one of those places that’s so peaceful and remote that you feel like you must be missing something. There has to be one bar, restaurant or beach where everyone is hanging out. Or the entire island went on vacation. Or there is a secret party. But no, it is truly just that sleepy. Once you get use to it, it’s a nice escape from reality.

After Gili, Leanne had to leave and head back home to work, leaving just Danielle and I. We rented a scooter and explored the island – beautiful beaches, dirt roads, quaint restaurants and the enchanting mangrove forests.

We also did a snorkel trip that was heaps better than the one from Gili. There was only 10 of us on the boat, and the fish and reefs were spectacular! We swam with giant manta rays too. Unbelievable experience of a lifetime.
